This is the space where we present organizations, platforms and initiatives for protection of human rights in Croatia, with the side note that the current list isn't detailed and will be updated on a regular basis. In relation to the area where the listed organizations work in, they are arranged according to the generation of human rights they protect which doesn't exclude their work in other areas.
First-generation human rights are civil and political rights and they are focused on the protection of individual's rights in relation to the state and it's repressive mechanisms. They consist of the right to protection of a person's physical integrity and safety, protection from discrimination, freedom of thought, conscience and religion, freedom of speech, protection of privacy, right to a fair trial, freedom of assembly and voluntary association, political participation in one's society, the right to vote and others. As such they are written in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the European Convention on Human Rights.
Second-generation human rights are economic, social and cultural rights that guarantee equal conditions and treatment of the citizens in relation to the actualization of the right to education, the right to work, to social and health insurance, assembly in unions, special measures for protection of children and youth, the right to culture and participation in science. Also, they are a key part of the Universal Declaration of Human Right and International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.
Third-generation human rights are the rights that overcome the rights of individuals and include the rights of groups such as the right to a healthy environment, to self-determination, economic and social development, natural wealth, intergereneration solidarity and others. These rights, not like the first two generations rights that are given and guaranteed by international law, are harder to actualize considering that their protection lies in the sovereignty of the national states.
